For the past few weeks, we have been busily working away on some new functionality for the Instalinux site.
We’re starting the roll out of these features with the introduction of “Instalinux Pro”. This is where the more advanced features will be found.
For the initial roll out, there’s two major features to be aware of:
Profiles: These have been partially available in the past but we’re opening the door to full profile creation and use via the “Pro” side of the site. A more complete news post is coming soon with an explanation of how to make full use of this.
Guru Configuration: You might not notice it the first time you go through the “Pro” designer, but on Step 5, at the very bottom, there is a check box that asks you if you want to edit the config files. Clicking that box will add an extra step to the image creation process where you can edit any part of the configuration file (Kickstart, Preseed, AutoYast) at all. The implications of this are huge!
For example, if there is a network waystation that you want to install from that is not on our standard list, you can put that in here. Or, if you have a mirror of your distro on your internal network, you can put in the IP of that waystation.
You can also add in your %post or late_command scripts here, opening the door to all sorts of possibilities.
The fact is that we’re really excited about this new part of the site. There are some additional things that we plan to roll out to the “Pro” site over the next few weeks, so be sure to check back here or Follow us on Twitter to keep up with the latest.
Enjoy!
